The word recession is enough to send tremors down one’s spine is they the young or the old. Those who are in the 50+ region have much more to battle for if they have been doled out the pink slips. Fitting into new jobs becomes that much harder, even at the interview level, for more often than not, the prospective employer or the interviewer is this youngster who is unable to hide his/her wonderment as to what this “old guy” is doing there. To beat them at their own game the advanced- in-years personnel have to upgrade their skills, honing their skills in technology, continue networking and reach out to the young, for who knows, one of them might turn out to be the boss. And finally maintain your physique and take care to look smart.

Recession has not spelt all gloom for McDonalds- the company has just announced their first quarter results and they sound encouraging. A 4% increase in sales and the forecast for April, promising. The company attributes their increased sales performance-despite the world-wide slump- to their fair pricing, seen as good value for money plus their multi-locations. The graph for their US and global scales show a healthy upward curve, though revenue did take a turn to the south. McDonalds ascribes this to the strengthening dollar. The company though remains optimistic. Their pricing policy of going easy on the pocket and their very many convenient outlets will continue to buy them customer loyalty.
